This is a large, sculptural freeform polished carving of lapis lazuli. The deep blue opaque mineral is lazurite, while the white stripes and gold flecks are calcite and pyrite respectively. Lapis lazuli has been used since at least 3000 BC as a decorative stone and later crushed and used as a pigment. This is a beautiful carving that would be a great addition to any desk or shelf.
