Beautiful dragonfly pair that is a positive and negative. This specimen is preserved in limestone with dendrite (a crystallin emass with a branching structure) inclusions on the matrix. Fossil dragonflies are very rare. It is especially rare to have the positive and negative sides. This particular specimen has had minimal restoration to bring out it's natural beauty.

The Solnhofen Limestone is a Jurassic Konservat-Lagerstätte. This formation is known for its rare preservation of soft bodied organisms including dragonflies, other insects, and sea jellies. The fossils in this formation are Tithonian Age (150.8 million to 145.5 million years ago) of the Jurassic Period. The Solnhafen Formation has been quarried since the Reformation in the 15th Century.
