Tietea Fern Wood | Brazil
Polished slab of petrified fern wood from Brazil.
Species: Tietea singularis
Size: Approx. 8.25"×8"×0.25"
Tree ferns have been around since the Late Carboniferous, with some still in existence even today. Members of this genus flourished into the Permian, but became extinct in the later Permian when the climate became too hot and dry. The trunk is composed of many vascular elements that supply the plant with water and nourishment. These vascular elements are what gives the slab its attractive appearance.
