Stylemys Nebrascensis is the first dry land turtle to be found in the US. They lived in temperate to subtropical areas of North America, Europe, and Asia. Joseph Leidy was the first to describe this species back in 1851. This type of turtle is commonly found in the badlands of South Dakota and Nebraska. They had primitive jaw muscles and were known to be herbivorous.
