The Ulysses butterfly (Papilio ulysses), also commonly known at the Blue Emperor, is a large swallowtail butterfly found in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.  It's striking blue color makes it one of the most beautiful of all butterflies. The dorsal side of the wings are an iridescent electric blue, while the ventral side is a more subdued brown. The colors are produced by the microscopic structure of the scales, a phenomenon called structural coloration.
