Fossil Preparation

Fossil Preparation Information

Fossil preparation is the process in which the rock or matrix is removed in order to expose the fossil underneath. Other preparation methods could consist of repair or restoration upon request.

Our fossil preparation team uses the latest museum techniques and tools backed by decades of experience. We use high definition microscopes, proprietary air abrasive media, pneumatic air scribes, and a stone sealing preservation process so your fossils last for many lifetimes. We can also back your fossils with a french cleat system for a clean floating-frame look that can hang on any wall.

Each fossil will have its own set of needs and it can be difficult to quote an exact rate for specimens until we see them at our shop. Swing by our store with any fossils you need prepared and we'll be happy to quote you. We charge $40 per hour of preparation, and typically we can make a very close guesstimate once we see which specimens will need work.
