The Tyrannosaurus is a large theropod dinosaur genus. Tyrannosaurus rex, commonly known as T. rex, is a well-known theropod species. It inhabited the western region of present-day North America, specifically on the island continent of Laramidia. Tyrannosaurus had a broader geographic range compared to other tyrannosaurids. Fossil evidence of Tyrannosaurus has been discovered in various rock formations dating back to the late Cretaceous period, approximately 72.7 to 66 million years ago. Notably, Tyrannosaurus was the final known member of the tyrannosaurid group and one of the last non-avian dinosaurs before the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.
