Azurite, a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, is admired for its stunning blue hue. It usually forms in nodular structures alongside other vivid, copper-laden minerals. This secondary mineral is formed by carbon dioxide-rich water that seeps into cracks, crevices, and caves.
Azurite and malachite can often be found together due to their similar chemical composition. The amount of water present during formation can determine whether malachite or azurite will be more prevalent.
