Sunset Paleo Adventure Tour

A Private Sunset Paleo Adventure Tour

A private, hands-on fossil expedition in the heart of Wyoming’s legendary Green River Formation.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience far from the crowds, this is it. Our brand-new Sunset Tour in the Fossil Butte Member is designed for families, friend groups, and adventure-seekers who want something real—something you’ll talk about for years.

This is your chance to step into deep time with your own private guides, including a certified geologist and a team of seasoned fossil hunters ready to share the science, the stories, and the thrill of discovery.

Your Itinerary

Timeframe: 3:30pm - 9:30pm

Start at our gallery in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Just two hours from Salt Lake City, you’ll meet the team at our gallery at 3:30pm before heading up to our exclusive private quarry. Bring your own AWD/4WD vehicle if you’d like—or ride with us. Either way, the adventure starts the moment you leave town.

Learn the Tools, the Safety, and the Science

Once at the quarry, we’ll give a quick rundown on tools and safety. Then it’s straight into the ancient world beneath your feet. Your guides and degreed geologist will walk you through the story of the Green River Formation—an ecosystem frozen in time for 52 million years.

Dig into Deep Time

With our team by your side, you’ll explore the layers, identify specimens, and uncover real fossils from real stratigraphic horizons. The tour runs about 5–6 hours, giving you plenty of time to make meaningful discoveries. You will be digging in either the upper split fish layers, the mini fish layers, or the sandwich layers.

Dinner with a View

As the sun dips behind Fossil Butte National Monument, we’ll serve a fresh field meal so you can relax, refuel, and enjoy one of the most stunning sunsets in Wyoming.

Prep and Wrap-up

At the end of the evening, our trained crew will cut and prep your finds for easy transport. Want them shipped instead? We can take care of that.

Then it’s back to town—or stay and enjoy a peaceful night in Kemmerer.

Ethical, Scientific, and Hands-On

We follow strict state guidelines to protect scientifically important fossils. You get to keep everything you find that isn’t significant to research (and trust us—99.9% of your discoveries go home with you).
