This gorgeous slab of petrified Cedar wood comes from Washington. It boasts a substantial size, aesthetic shape, well-preserved growth rings, and intricate wood structure. One side has been polished to a glossy finish.
Petrified wood is formed through a process called permineralization, where mineral-rich groundwater replaces the original organic material. This process occurs over thousands of years, resulting in a detailed and three-dimensional representation of the wood's cellular structure.
Compared to more colorful petrified woods, cedar tends to be more understated - but that’s exactly why many collectors love it. It feels “true to wood,” just frozen in deep time.
