Angelite is a glacier blue- to lilac-colored variety of anhydrite.  The name anhydrite come from the Greek word, anhydrous, meaning "without water."  Angelite is a dehydrated gypsum.  It only occurs where gypsum crystals once had contact with water.  Over time, the water evaporates and the gypsum crystals compress, forming Angelite. Angelite is quite soft and is often found with white specks and rust-colored inclusions.  The Angelite name comes from its soothing, ethereal color.

Note: Be careful with Angelite around water. Being an evaporative mineral, any contact with water may permanently damage it.
