Carpopenaeus is an extinct genus of marine decapod crustaceans related to modern shrimp. These ancient invertebrates inhabited Cretaceous seas, where they occupied an important ecological niche as small marine consumers and scavengers.
The fossilized remains may preserve distinctive anatomical features, including the elongated body, segmented abdomen, cephalothorax, rostrum, and delicate appendages. The preservation of such fine anatomical structures provides valuable insight into the morphology, evolutionary history, and ecological relationships of ancient marine crustaceans.
