Blue calcite is a beautiful, naturally occurring carbonate mineral known for its soft blue to blue-gray coloring, often accented by delicate white or translucent bands. Its soothing appearance and gentle, cloudy patterns give it an elegant, almost ethereal quality.

Although commonly sold under the name “Blue Onyx,” this material is generally calcite rather than true onyx. The trade name refers to its distinctive banded appearance and resemblance to ornamental onyx.

Blue calcite is relatively soft compared with many decorative stones, making it especially appealing for carved objects, spheres, polished specimens, decorative pieces, and collector displays. When polished, its natural translucency and layered coloration can create a beautiful depth and glow.
