This trilobite has eye shades extending over its eyes. These structures are wide, rigid brims that project outward from the palpebral lobes, overhanging the upper edges of the compound eyes. Much like a sun visor, they may have helped shield the eyes from overhead sunlight and glare while the trilobite looked horizontally across the seafloor.

Odontochile is an extinct genus of marine trilobites belonging to the order Phacopida and family Dalmanitidae. These fascinating arthropods inhabited ancient marine environments during the Devonian Period.

Odontochile trilobites are characterized by their distinctive three-lobed body structure, a prominent cephalon (head shield), a segmented thorax, and a pygidium (tail shield). Like other trilobites, their exoskeleton was composed primarily of calcite and chitin, providing protection and support. Their compound eyes, typical of many phacopid trilobites, were adapted to their marine environment.

As benthic marine arthropods, these trilobites lived on or near the seafloor, where they likely scavenged organic material and fed on small organisms. Their calcified exoskeletons readily fossilized under favorable conditions, making them valuable specimens for studying Paleozoic marine ecosystems, arthropod evolution, and the diversity of ancient seafloor communities.
