Sonora Sunrise (also known as Sonora Sunset) is a trade name for chrysocolla with cuprite, a striking mineral formation from the Milpillas Mine in Sonora, Mexico. Vibrant blue-green chrysocolla contrasts beautifully with cuprite’s rich reddish-brown to deep copper-red tones. Chrysocolla is a copper-bearing mineral prized for its brilliant turquoise, teal, and blue-green colors, while cuprite is a copper oxide mineral known for its deep red hues and occasional brilliant crystal formations. When cut in a specific orientation, the contrasting colors create the appearance of a lush green landscape beneath a brilliant red sky.
